Additional dental cleanings Dentist Highlands Ranch

Additional dental cleaning Dentist Highlands Ranch

Typically dental insurance companies only reimburse patients for two cleaning per year and... "if" they have some type of gum disease that has been treated with deep cleanings ( root plaining). Our Highlands Ranch dentist feel it is a shame to let this happen in order to be reimbursed.

More than two dental cleaning per year Dentist Highlands Ranch

Unfortunately, you may need to have more than two dental cleanings per year to stay ahead of gum disease. Not everyone is at the same risk for gum disease and more frequent dental cleaning can reduce (not eliminate) this risk. Our Highlands Ranch dentists have found some patient develop dental calculus in what seems to be overnight. Other patient can take a full 6-months and get very little deposits. As you have heard before... life is not fair... and ...it is what it is.

Home care obviously is the key to your dental health Dentist Highlands Ranch

Dental care consisting of brushing, flossing, fluoride and diet control are the best preventive measures you can take. Diet control revolves around reducing the simple sugars you intake daily. This includes candy and sodas.

Add "Listerine" to your home care regimen

Adding Listerine to your home care regimens can significantly improve your overall dental health. Listerine work effectively to reduce the bacterial count in your mouth. Reducing the levels of bacterial that causes gum disease (periodontal disease) and cavities improves your overall dental health.

Seating a dental crown Dentist Highlands Ranch

Seating a dental crown Dentist Highlands Ranch

Seating a dental crown is a common procedure in dentistry. Highlands Ranch dentist Dr. James DeLapp and Dr. H. Candace Delapp review the common elements in crown seating. As background a dental crown is placed on a tooth that has been damaged by decay, older failing dental fillings or tooth fracture etc. Many dental crowns are cemented on and some are bonded on. We will review the cemented variety.

The dental temporary is critical Dentist Highlands Ranch
The dental temporary our Highlands Ranch dentist places on your tooth while it is being fabricated in the dental laboratory is critical to this step. The dental temporary holds the width space as well as it holds the vertical space in not allowing the tooth to super-erupt (move down). The temporary is cemented with ...yes... temporary cement. Temporary cement is suppose to be weak and should be easy to remove( sometimes it is not!).

The porcelain or gold dental crown is tried in and fitted Dentist Highlands Ranch

The porcelain crown it fitted onto the tooth and our Highlands Ranch and Denver Dentists or staff make minor adjustments. These adjustments can be for the width or contact as well as the height or the bite. Once it appears to fit well on the tooth we take a dental radiograph to verify the fit "if" needed.

The crown is cemented onto the tooth Dentist Highlands Ranch
After the above steps the tooth is dried and the crown is cemented on. The cement is allowed to initially set and removed from the margins of the tooth. The bite is re-verified and the patient dismissed.

Be careful... the dental cement is still setting Dentist Highlands Ranch

In most cases... it takes "awhile" for the cement to set. We tell our Highlands Ranch and Denver Dental patients to chew on the other side for the first 24 hours. Disrupting the cement before it finally sets can put fractures in the cement and the crown may become dislodged and fall off. Do not despair... in a vast majority of cases it can be re cemented back on (sometimes it can't).

Delaying dentures in the young patient Highlands Ranch Dentist (303) 694-9740

Delaying Dentures in the young patient

The other day our Highlands Ranch dentists recieved a call from a patient under 30 years old wanting to know the cost and procedures for dentures. Having not seen the patient yet several things came to mind. It is very unfortunate that this patient has let their oral health deteriorate to the point of needing dentures. When we do have the opportunity to evaluate them... dentures may indeed be the only choice. There are some issues that I would like everyone who is in this situation or approaching this level of destruction to know in the following article. Highlands Ranch dentists Dr. James DeLapp and Dr. H. Candace DeLapp provide general dental services to their patients in the Lone Tree, Castle Pines, Parker, Ken Caryl, Greenwood Village, Centennial and Denver Colorado area.

A lower denture never fits

For many years our Highlands Ranch dentists have discussed with their patients that a lower denture never fits. The ridge is horseshoe shaped... thin... and resorbs 3X faster than the upper ridge. In addition the tongue constantly dislodges it. Our Highlands Ranch dentists feel that an upper denture for the most part fits O.K. ( didn't say great) but for most patients acceptable.

The bone on the lower melts away

Since the bone on the mandible resorbs 3X faster than the upper what there is to saddle to melts away in time. This is why it is a crime for a young patient to have their teeth extracted at an early age. In fact, over time, the bone can be so thin that the mandible fractures under load. Keeping teeth or dental implants can help preserved the bone.

Consider dental implants

One of the many benefits of dental implants is making that lower denture fit to some degree "and"... helping preserve the bone in the mandible. Implants are not inexpensive but their help in preserving bone cannot be measured especially in anyone under 30 years olds.

Please feel free to call

Please feel free to contact our Highlands Ranch dentists for an evaluation today. If you can delay loosing your teeth so much the better. You may not be able to keep all your teeth but some teeth is so much better than no teeth. Dr's DeLapp see patients in the Denver, Castle Pines, Parker, Lone Tree Centennial, and Highlands Ranch area of Colorado. For an appointment call (303) 694-9740.
